First Aid & Emergency Care Courses

These courses are designed to give members first aid and emergency care skills and knowledge that they can use as part of a patrol on the beach, providing first aid or emergency care for things like Nippers or club events or just to give them the training that one day will help them save a life.

  

Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate

To commence training for the Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate you must meet the following course prerequisites:

  • Be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Hold one of the following SLSA awards - Bronze Medallion, Basic Emergency Care Certificate or Senior First Aid Certificate
  • Already achieved the units of competency as shown below.
(For SLSA participants these competencies will usually have been achieved as part of the SLSA Bronze Medallion, Basic Emergency Care Certificate or Senior First Aid Certificate)

SLSA Bronze Medallion, Basic Emergency Care or Senior First Aid.

  • PUAEME001B Provide emergency care

AND

  • HLTCPR201A Perform CPR (Recognition can be granted for HLTCPR201A to participants who hold the Provide Emergency Care competency and are current in one of the SLSA awards listed above)

OR

  • HLTFA201A Provide basic emergency life support

OR

  • HLTFA301B Apply first aid

The course involves approximately 9 hours of training and practical experience conducted in night training.

No further course will be conducted this season.

Assessment involves a theory exam and practical demonstration of advanced resuscitation skills.

  

Spinal Management Course

To commence training for the Spinal Management Certificate you must have met the follow course pre-requisites.

  • Be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Hold a Bronze Medallion OR Senior First Aid Certificate

The course involves approximately 7.5 hours of training and practical experience conducted in a mix of a theory training session and a practical training session in the water.

No further courses will be conducted this season.

This is a facilitated course – assessment is conducted concurrently with training.

  

Senior First Aid Certificate

To commence training for the Senior First Certificate you must be a minimum of 15 years of age on the date of final assessment

The course involves approximately 7 hours of training and practical experience conducted in night theory training.

No further courses will be conducted this season.

Assessment involves a theory exam and practical demonstration of practical first aid skills.
