Aquatic Rescue Courses

These courses are aimed at giving members the skills and knowledge to save life on the beach. These courses offers memebrs the chance to either particpate as a patrolling member or in helping provide water safety for Nippers and club events.

  

Surf Rescue Certificate

To commence training for the Surf Rescue Certificate you must be at least 13 years of age on the date of final assessment. The course involves approximately 30 hours of training and practical experience conducted in a mix of night theory training and weekend practical training.

Next course commences Oct/Nov 2012.

Assessment involves a multiple choice theory exam and practical demonstration of dry land and water skills in First Aid, CPR, and Lifesaving Rescue Techniques.

  

Bronze Medallion / Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

To commence training for the Bronze Medallion you must meet the following course prerequisites:

  • Be at least 15 years of age on the date of final assessment
  • Have completed a 400 metre swim in nine minutes or less, in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres or over a measured open water course before any training starts in the surf and or deep water.

The course involves approximately 35 hours of training and practical experience conducted in a mix of night theory training and weekend practical training.  

Next course commences Oct/Nov 2012.

Assessment involves a multiple choice theory exam and practical demonstration of dry land and water skills in First Aid, CPR, Oxygen, Communications, Patient Carries and Lifesaving Rescue Techniques.

  

Basic Beach Management (Silver Medallion)

To enter the Beach Management course you must already have achieved the following units of competency and be 17 years of age on the date of final assessment:

(For SLSA participants these competencies will usually have been completed as part of the SLSA Bronze Medallion and Senior First Aid awards)

Bronze Medallion

  • PUACOM001B Communicate in the Workplace
  • PUAEME001A Provide Emergency Care
  • PUAOPE002A Operate Communication Systems and Equipment

Senior First Aid

  • PUAEME001A Provide Emergency Care
  • PUAEME002B Manage Injuries at Emergency Incident

Next Course will be conducted during off season in July 2012.

You do not need currency in these SLSA awards in order to be eligible to start this course. The Course is facilitated and involves approximately 6 hours of training conducted in night theory training.
