How Do I Compete for HLSC?
In order to represent Hampton at Carnivals, Life Saving Victoria requires Nippers to demonstrate their ability, strength and fitness to compete in this open water based sport:
- Under 8 Nippers can participate in a limited number of events at some carnivals. There is no competency requirement for these younger age groups.
- Under 9 and 10 Nippers must be able to competently swim 150m.
- Under 11 through to Under 14 Nippers must be able to competently swim 288m.
Additionally, under 14 Nippers must have successfully completed their SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate).
Once Nippers have completed these age based requirements they receive an S badge which is sewn onto their swimming costume. Hampton Life Saving Club runs regular testing prior to the start of the Carnival season.
Life Saving Victoria charges clubs $15 per competitor for each carnival and $30 for the State Championships. Additionally, Hampton charges a gear levy of $25 per Nipper. Each competing Nipper will need to complete a Carnival Registration Form.
Registration Forms can be handed to Leonie Mawkes at Sunday training sessions. |
