Competition

Hampton Life Saving Club participates in Inter-club Carnivals run by Life Saving Victoria. These include the summer season beach carnivals and winter season pool events and the IRB Racing series.

Carnivals are broken down into Nippers (under 9 – under 14), Seniors (under 15 and up), Masters (30 and up) and IRB Racing.

In recent history, Hampton has competed predominantly at Nipper Carnivals, with a smattering of Senior and Masters competitors. However, as our Comp squad grows, our Nippers are graduating to the Senior ranks, and some of the more ‘adult’ members of Hampton have decided to get back into competition as Masters! Hampton IRB Racing Teams are also proud to be competing in our first season.

Last year, approximately 80 Hampton Nippers participated in one or more Carnivals and enjoyed the camaraderie of being part of Hampton’s ‘Carnival Crew’ as well as the pride of doing their best in a variety of beach and water events.

The Carnival events mirror the activities Nippers participate in at Club level. They include:

•Wade Race (running in up to knee depth water)

•Surf Race (open water swimming)

•Board Race

•Iron Nipper (swim, board, run)

•Beach Sprint

•Flags

As well as individual events, there are a number of team events, including:

•Wade Relay

•Surf Teams

•Board Relay

•Aqua Cameron Relay (wade, swimming, board and running)

•Beach Relay

Hampton prides itself on encouraging Nippers to have fun at the Carnivals and ‘give everything a go’. But we are also very proud of the success our children have had at Carnivals, especially the 2012 State Titles where our competitors won a record number of team medals. Go Hampton!

Senior and Master events include beach events (sprint, flags, relays) and water events (swim, board, ski, Iron), and team variations of these water based events.
