Exercise LifesaverQualified patrolling club members will participate in the following four (4) lifesaving events. The events will be timed and assessed for skill and competency in technique with prizes awarded to the winners. Tube rescue of a patient.Teams consist of a patient and a rescuer. The patient will be positioned on the seaward side of a designated buoy off shore. The rescuer is on the beach adjacent to their designated beach start position. On the starter’s signal, the rescuer enters the water and swims out to the patient. The rescuer secures the tube around them patient and then swims back to the beach with the patient. The rescuer and the patient must safely exit the water to the designated finish line. Board rescue of an unconscious patient.Teams consist of a patient, a rescuer and a beach patrol member. The patient will be positioned on the seaward side of a designated buoy off shore. The rescuer is on the beach with their rescue board adjacent to their designated beach start position. On the starter’s signal, the rescuer enters the water and swims out to the patient. The rescuer must secure the patient, keeping the board to the shoreward side, using correct technique to secure the patient. They must then perform two rescue breaths and return to shore. The rescuer must signal assistance required and return to shore so that the patient remains secure until they reach the shallows. Then with the assistance of the other team member they must demonstrate a two person carry up the beach to the designated finish line. Timed run-swim-run.This is an individual event. All participants will be on the beach at the designated start line. On the starter’s signal participants complete a 200m run, 200m swim and 200m run (as per proficiency). The 200m swim will start in chest deep water. Patrol scenario.Teams will consist of a minimum of four people with the following awards: BM/SRC, ART, Spinal, and Senior First Aid. Participants will be required to deal with a variety of scenarios in a 30min period. Scenarios will include: mass rescue, resuscitation (heart attack), spinal incident, first aid (marine envenomation), and communications. For more information email: |
