Activities of the Hampton Life Saving Club

We at the Hampton Life Saving Club have many an activity happening year long, not just patrolling the beaches in Summer. We run a (very well conducted) Nipper's program, encourage our active members to participate in inter-club carnivals, should they have a competitive bone or two in their body, and for those that like to socialise, then there's our Family Feasts and Youth Events which we hold every so often (more often than not!), to bring the general membership closer together and form (for some), lifelong bonds.

Below is a brief summary of our main activities at the Hampton Life Saving Club.

Beach Patrols

Patrolling, Hampton Life Saving Club's main activity, is a fantastic way to spend your weekends. We don't require that you patrol EVERY DAY. At most, patrol members are required to patrol maybe 6-7 times between the end of November, and Easter Monday. As you can imagine, only 6 or 7 days is not a lot to give up over the span of 4-5 months.

Once you start patrolling, you're able to get different awards, which will allow you to do different things, such as operate our Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRB's) or our Radio's. You can also compete at Inter-club Carnivals which are held throughout the season.

Nippers & Training

We all want to make sure our kids are safe at the beach while they're in the water. Our training here at Hampton helps the kids get familiar with the beach environment, and to have fun while doing it.

Ages range from approximately 5 to 13 years old, and training for the kids is run on a Saturday afternoon, consisting of a lot of teamwork skills, as well as interaction and familiarisation of our surrunding environment. We run activities such as sprints, relays, beach flags, as well as "Run and Wades" and for the older Nippers, some board work as well.

Kids are also encouraged to participate in the inter-club carnivals which are run around the state throughout the season. Please make sure you let our coaches know if your kid(s) are attending!

Training for the little tackers runs once a week. Check our newsletter, "On Patrol" or the Nipper News for times and dates. Please make sure you get your kids to training at least 15 minutes early, to allow for registration, etc.

Competition

Competing is all a lot of fun, but for some people, it can be serious business - look at the Ironman League! We may not be quite up to Ironman standard, but it's a hell of a tough competition. We compete against clubs from around the state, so you can be sure there's going to be some stiff competition out there.

Carnivals are held around the state, and for the most part, run for the entire day. Nipper carnivals are for ages 5-13, and Full (or Senior) carnivals are for ages 13 and up. There's also Twilight carnivals, Masters carnivals and Youth carnivals as well. All sorts of events are run, such as beach sprints, relay running, board paddling and swimming.

Social Events

After all that time spent on training, patrolling and competing down at Hampton, who has time for a social gathering? WE DO!!! Our social events are a great way to unwind and relax after a long hard day's work, or if you just feel like coming down for the social event, well that's great too! We have events for every age group, such as the Family Feasts, Santa Visits or Youth Gatherings.

Dates for events are located on our calendar. Make sure you've cleared your diary so that you can come down and support YOUR Life Saving Club!!
